DigiCert hosted the World Quantum Readiness Day 2026 event to address the security risks quantum computing poses to public key infrastructure (PKI). Experts emphasized that organizations must prioritize migration to quantum-safe cryptography, as current systems face vulnerabilities that require urgent modernization.
A survey by DigiCert revealed that 87% of organizations are currently planning, testing, or implementing post-quantum initiatives, yet only 7% have deployed quantum-safe or hybrid cryptography across most certificates. Industry leaders noted that there is no universal template for this transition.
Microsoft has committed to transitioning its products and services to post-quantum cryptography by 2029. Meanwhile, companies like Daiwa Institute of Research have begun testing performance impacts, reporting an average increase of 1.2 milliseconds in TLS handshake times during proof-of-concept trials.
Experts highlighted the importance of crypto agility and inventorying assets to manage the transition in waves. Different jurisdictions are adopting varying standards, with some following the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology, while others, including China, are developing their own programs.
