Dream Labs has secured $90 million in a seed funding round led by B Capital and Kindred Ventures. Other participants included A.Capital, Unusual Ventures, Wing VC, SV Angel, Scribble VC, and angel investor Adrian Aoun. The startup is using the capital to scale compute resources for its universal robot foundation model, Dream-1.
The company has exited stealth mode with the launch of an API that allows developers to integrate the Dream-1 model into robotic hardware. The model functions as a universal brain for bimanual robots, utilizing human video data to learn physical tasks. It requires only a video feed and natural language instructions to operate.
Pricing for the API starts at $3 per hour for the primary model, with a lightweight version available for 75 cents per hour. Dream Labs also offers a fine-tuning service that enables developers to train the model on new tasks using custom video footage. The company currently collaborates with over 20 hardware manufacturers.
Dream Labs aims to address the limitations of existing industrial robots, which are often restricted to single, pre-programmed tasks. The startup estimates there are over five million industrial robots globally. Future development plans include expanding support for mobile robots and those equipped with humanlike hands.
