Dongfeng Motor is negotiating for the rights to be the first automaker to equip its vehicles with CATL’s third-generation Shenxing battery. The battery, unveiled on April 21, 2026, is capable of charging from 10% to 80% in 3 minutes and 44 seconds, with a full charge taking approximately 6 minutes under normal temperatures.
The two companies signed a strategic cooperation agreement on October 29, 2026, to develop an integrated energy ecosystem. Brands including Voyah, M-hero, and Epicland will be the first to feature super-charging products with 10C performance or higher. This partnership aims to combine battery-swapping technology with ultra-fast charging capabilities.
CATL currently holds a 43.8% market share in China as of the first nine months of 2026. The company is expanding its network of integrated charging and swapping stations, with plans to reach over 3,000 locations by the end of the year. Partners in this ecosystem include Chery, BAIC, Changan, GAC, and Seres.
The manufacturer is also exploring a reverse battery-swapping model, allowing users to earn money by replenishing the energy supply at stations. To support these initiatives, CATL has recently restructured its management to better integrate passenger and commercial vehicle operations.
