Google has introduced an enhanced autofill feature for the Chrome browser, designed to automatically populate web forms using information extracted from a user's Gmail inbox. The tool identifies specific data points, including order numbers, tracking information, and flight booking details.
The functionality is powered by Gemini and the Personal Intelligence feature, which integrates data from connected applications like Gmail and Google Photos. The update is currently rolling out to users in the United States across desktop, Android, and iOS platforms.
Users retain control over the feature through Chrome settings, where they can enable or disable access to their data. Google states that sensitive information remains encrypted and that the AI models do not train directly on the content of a user's Gmail inbox or Google Photos library.
The company clarified that standard autofill data, such as credit card numbers and addresses, continues to be managed through existing browser-saved information rather than being pulled from email content. Users can manage app connections and permissions at any time.
