The Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory announced the resolution of the 3D Ghys conjecture, a mathematical problem that has remained unsolved for over 30 years. The proof was achieved by a team led by Professor Xu Disheng from the Greater Bay Area University, utilizing the InternLM-S2 multimodal model.
The validation of the proof was conducted by a team from Peking University, led by Professor Dong Bin and Academician Liu Ruochuan, using the SHEAF framework. This marks the first instance of a Chinese-developed AI model successfully addressing a world-class mathematical challenge.
The Ghys conjecture was originally proposed by French mathematician Étienne Ghys in 1995. It concerns holomorphic Anosov systems on compact complex manifolds and is considered a significant benchmark for mathematical reasoning capabilities in the field of dynamical systems.
The research team has published the relevant paper on the arXiv preprint platform and released the formal verification code on GitHub. The study introduces a new research paradigm that integrates expert intuition into machine-driven problem-solving loops.
The laboratory plans to incorporate the capabilities developed during this project into the Duanyan scientific discovery platform. This will create a reusable module for future mathematical research, facilitating a self-evolving cycle of breakthroughs across various scientific disciplines.
