The Supreme People's Court of China has released its first judicial guidance document regarding artificial intelligence disputes. The new rules address critical issues including autonomous driving, deepfakes, data-driven price discrimination, and intellectual property protection.
Regarding autonomous and driver-assistance systems, the court established clear liability frameworks for accidents. If damages result from a combination of vehicle defects and driver error, the court will support claims against both the driver and the manufacturer or seller.
The document also regulates marketing practices for automated vehicles. Manufacturers and sellers face civil liability if they provide false or misleading information about a vehicle's automation level, performance, or intended use, violating consumer protection laws.
