The second-generation BYD Seagull features a significant architectural shift, moving from front-wheel drive to a rear-wheel drive configuration. This change allowed for the addition of a front trunk, a rare feature for compact electric vehicles in China priced under ¥100 000. The vehicle is now equipped with a TZ164XYB electric motor from Zhengzhou BYD Auto, delivering 95 kW of power.
Performance metrics have improved, with the top speed reaching 150 km/h compared to the previous model's 55 kW motor. The chassis has been upgraded to include an independent multi-link rear suspension, replacing the former torsion beam. The car now rides on 16-inch alloy wheels fitted with wider 205/60 R16 tires, a notable increase from the previous 165 mm and 175 mm widths.
Interior updates include a flat-bottom two-spoke steering wheel, a central display, and physical switches located below the ventilation vents. The cabin also features a wireless smartphone charging pad and two vertical cup holders. Exterior modifications include semi-concealed mechanical door handles, a redesigned rear with split taillights, a large spoiler, and a lower diffuser.
Advanced driver assistance systems are also being integrated into the new generation. Higher trim levels may offer a roof-mounted lidar sensor. This hardware supports the DiPilot 300 (God’s Eye B) system, which provides Level 2 autonomous driving assistance features.
