The Backbone Coalition has launched a new strategy aimed at bolstering the European battery value chain. The initiative seeks to address current security risks associated with the region's heavy reliance on external suppliers for key battery components, despite the rapid integration of battery technology across European industrial and energy systems.
The coalition, which includes experts from the investment, industrial, energy, and security sectors, advocates for policy changes to foster a competitive battery market. Their focus is on reducing supply chain dependencies and promoting production within Europe and among its trusted international allies.
The strategic plan outlines specific actions for the European Union to implement over the next three years. These measures are designed to improve grid security, support industrial capacity, and enhance defense readiness by creating favorable investment conditions and ensuring long-term resilience in the electrified economy.
