Danish defense company MyDefence has introduced the Wingman Edge, a wearable device designed to detect drones by monitoring radio signals. The system identifies potential threats within a range of up to 6 kilometers, providing early warnings to frontline soldiers.
The device weighs approximately 975 grams and is intended for individual use. It utilizes a passive radio receiver and an artificial intelligence classification system to scan frequencies ranging from 200 MHz to 6 GHz, targeting communication links, Wi-Fi, and analog video transmissions.
Upon detecting a suspicious signal, the system compares it against a database of known drone signatures. The device is network-enabled, allowing it to receive updates on new threats. It alerts users via sound, light, vibration, or a display interface.
Wingman Edge is compatible with other MyDefence systems to facilitate coordinated anti-drone operations. CEO Dan D. S. Hermansen noted that the technology aims to improve situational awareness in electromagnetic environments, even when encountering previously unrecorded drone signals.
