Volkswagen Group of America has issued a recall for 9,048 Audi Q4 E-Tron and Q4 Sportback E-Tron vehicles from the 2024 and 2025 model years. The action follows concerns that a high-voltage battery failure could potentially lead to a fire. The company has not yet developed a permanent repair for the issue, and the exact root cause remains under investigation.

As a temporary safety measure, owners are instructed to limit battery charging to a maximum of 80 percent. This precaution is intended to prevent thermal propagation, where overheating in one cell spreads to others. Audi reported that it is not aware of any crashes, injuries, or fires related to this defect in its vehicles. The recall is registered with the NHTSA as campaign 26V698000.

Owners can verify if their vehicle is included in the recall by checking their VIN on the NHTSA website. Official notification letters are scheduled to be mailed to registered owners on December 18, 2026. Once a permanent remedy is finalized, dealers will perform the necessary repairs free of charge. Audi will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.

This situation mirrors a separate recall involving 22,524 Volkswagen ID.4 vehicles, which face a similar issue and also require a charging limit of 80 percent. The Volkswagen campaign began earlier, with VINs becoming searchable on October 6, 2026. Like the Audi recall, the root cause for the Volkswagen ID.4 battery issue remains unresolved at this time.
