BMW is developing the next generation of the X5 M performance SUV, with production scheduled for 2028. The upcoming model will be available in both a V8-powered version and a fully electric variant, serving as the flagship for the X5 and iX5 lineups.

The electric version is expected to feature a quad-motor setup producing approximately 900 hp. This performance output will distinguish it from the electric X5 i60, which delivers 570 hp. The current V8-powered X5 M generates 617 hp.

The prototype spotted near the Nürburgring features a redesigned bodykit, wider kidney grille, and a sculpted hood with integrated vents. The vehicle includes chassis modifications, a double rear spoiler, and upgraded brakes with six-piston calipers.

Inside, the cabin will retain the technology of the standard G65 X5 while incorporating M-specific elements. These include bucket seats, carbon fiber trim, and updated digital cockpit graphics. The production model will likely feature unique LED light signatures.
