Audi is initiating a voluntary safety recall in the United States for 9,048 electric vehicles, including the Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron. The action follows a broader Volkswagen Group campaign involving faulty battery cells sourced from a Hungarian facility operated by SK Battery Manufacturing.
The affected vehicles include 7,040 Q4 e-tron units produced between December 4, 2023, and April 24, 2025, and 2,008 Q4 Sportback e-tron units built between November 30, 2023, and April 22, 2025. All these vehicles were manufactured at the Volkswagen plant in Zwickau, Germany.
While no incidents have been reported, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warns of potential fire risks. Owners are advised to limit charging to 80% capacity. It remains unclear if a similar recall will be issued in Europe, as no entries have appeared in German regulatory databases.
This recall is linked to wider battery issues identified by Volkswagen in September. Separately, Volkswagen is managing a recall of 22,524 ID.4 vehicles in the US due to battery concerns involving SK Battery America, as well as a previous 2026 recall of 44,551 ID.4 units caused by electrode alignment issues.
