A Tesla Semi electric truck caught fire on Tuesday evening while traveling on Interstate 880 near Hayward, California. The incident occurred close to the junction with Highway 92, leading to significant traffic disruptions in the area.
The driver of the vehicle managed to escape safely. According to statements provided to the police, the fire started unexpectedly while the truck was in motion, and the operator could not identify the specific cause of the ignition.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to combat the flames. California Highway Patrol officials noted that lithium-ion battery fires are notoriously difficult to extinguish and produce hazardous smoke.
The accident caused extensive congestion on both sides of the interstate for several hours. Authorities closed lanes in both directions to manage the situation. While the northbound lanes have since reopened, the southbound lanes remain closed until the fire is completely extinguished.
