Apple is preparing to introduce a new smart home hub on October 13th. According to reports from Mark Gurman, the launch event will also feature an updated HomePod mini and a refreshed Apple TV model. All three devices are expected to integrate the new Siri AI assistant.

The smart home hub serves as a new product category for the company. It will be equipped with a 6-inch display and a metal base housing speakers and microphones. The design allows for screen tilting, and the company plans to offer a wall-mount version with a slimmer base profile.

The device lacks an internal battery and will utilize a USB-C power supply. It will be available in a gray aluminum finish. The software interface is designed to support iPad-like applications, including a two-panel layout for the Messages app.

Functionality of the hub includes the control of smart home devices, video conferencing, music playback, and photo slideshows. The system also supports intercom-style communication features.
