Apple has updated its App Store developer guidelines to address concerns regarding AI-generated content and deceptive application behavior. The company now mandates that developers implement robust moderation mechanisms to filter offensive or harmful material within apps that host user-generated content.
The new rules specifically target applications that employ bait-and-switch tactics. Developers are prohibited from concealing features during the review process and unlocking harmful capabilities, such as unauthorized image manipulation, after the app is approved. Any application that introduces features not present in the submitted version will face removal from the store.
Furthermore, Apple has strengthened its legal language regarding the prohibition of apps involved in human trafficking or child exploitation. These updates follow a period of increased scrutiny, including a July directive from San Francisco officials demanding the removal of certain exploitative applications from the platform.
