Apple is reportedly planning to launch a special edition iPhone in 2027 to mark the 20th anniversary of the original device. This model, currently referred to as the iPhone 20, is expected to feature the most significant design overhaul since the iPhone X, potentially incorporating curved glass that wraps around all four edges and corners to create a bezel-less appearance.
The device is rumored to be powered by the A21 Pro chip, built on a second-generation 2nm process. Apple is also exploring advanced hardware upgrades, including silicon-anode batteries for higher energy density, high-bandwidth memory with vertically stacked DRAM to support local AI tasks, and next-generation OLED panels with integrated color filters for improved brightness and efficiency.
Further design innovations may include haptic-feedback buttons integrated directly into the chassis and the implementation of under-display Face ID technology. The lineup is expected to feature two sizes, with screens measuring approximately 6.4 inches and 7 inches, slightly larger than the current iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models.
While the recently released iPhone 18 Pro introduces the 2nm A20 Pro chip, improved thermal management, and a 48MP Fusion camera, the 2027 anniversary model is positioned as a more radical departure in industrial design. However, Apple's development plans remain subject to change, and the technical challenges of mass-producing such a device could impact final specifications.
