Apple has officially released iOS 27, introducing significant updates to Siri, system performance, and the Liquid Glass interface. The update is compatible with iPhone 11 and later models, including the second-generation iPhone SE. However, advanced Apple Intelligence features, including the new Siri AI, are primarily restricted to the iPhone 15 Pro and newer devices.
The new Siri AI features context awareness, screen perception, and the ability to perform complex tasks across applications. Initially, the AI assistant will support English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish planned for October. Users in the European Union will not have access to these features at launch due to regulatory issues.
iOS 27 introduces AI-driven enhancements to Photos, including Spatial Reframing, and upgrades to Image Playground for image generation. Shortcuts now allow users to create automation flows via natural language descriptions. Additionally, HomeKit Secure Video can now generate automated descriptions of recorded footage.
Performance improvements include up to 30% faster app launches, 70% faster photo loading, and 80% faster AirDrop transfers. The update also introduces iPhone Handoff, allowing shared phone numbers across two devices, with initial support from carriers like T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom. T-Mobile will charge $5 per month for this service.
The system includes optimizations for the iPhone Duo foldable device, adjusting layouts for its 7.6-inch screen. New features for US users include Apple Cash bill splitting via Wallet and Messages. The update also adds granular volume controls and enhanced privacy settings for the Find My application.
