Apple has integrated SynthID invisible watermarking into its operating systems starting with iOS, iPadOS, and macOS version 27.2. This update applies to specific Apple Intelligence tools, including Image Playground and Image Wand, as well as the Clean Up, Extend, and Spatial Reframing features within the Photos application.

The watermarking process is not limited to AI-generated content. Any user-captured photograph modified using these specified AI tools will also receive the SynthID watermark. Apple states that these markers are imperceptible to the human eye and do not alter the visual appearance of the images.

Users can verify the presence of a watermark by uploading images to the synthid.com website. Additionally, the company introduced Apple Reference Images for the iPhone 18 Pro series, which utilize the SynthID standard to provide pixel-level verification of authentic image data, allowing users to confirm the origin of their photos.
