Apple is reportedly considering phasing out standard MacBook Pro models in favor of touchscreen versions. Currently, the company offers both Mini-LED display laptops and touchscreen alternatives, with the latter priced $400 higher.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg suggests that maintaining parallel product lines creates inefficiencies in development, production, and marketing. While a specific timeline for discontinuing non-touchscreen models remains unconfirmed, the shift appears inevitable.
The company plans to launch a new generation of touchscreen MacBook Pro laptops in 2027, powered by M7 Pro and M7 Max chips designed to enhance artificial intelligence capabilities.
A redesigned 14-inch base model featuring the M7 chip is also expected in the first half of 2027. This version will reportedly feature a thinner, lighter chassis and narrower display bezels.
Apple recently introduced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro models equipped with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. These units feature OLED displays, Dynamic Island, and an improved cooling system.
