Samsung is reportedly planning to increase the price of its OLED panels by $10–20 in 2027. The company aims to stabilize pricing in a market it currently describes as chaotic. This shift comes as manufacturers face mounting pressure from rising component costs and supply chain constraints.

The primary driver behind the potential shortage is the surging demand for AI server chips. This demand has consumed production capacity for the mature-process microchips essential for display drivers. Smartphone manufacturers have already begun stockpiling OLED screens in November 2026 to mitigate future risks.

Samsung Display remains the market leader, holding a 41–44% share of the global smartphone AMOLED market in 2026. As a primary supplier for Apple, including for upcoming foldable iPhone models, Samsung’s pricing strategy significantly impacts the broader electronics industry.

Analysts warn that the display shortage may compound existing issues in the memory chip market, which has already driven up prices for smartphones and computers. Industry forecasts suggest that these combined supply constraints could persist through 2028, further pressuring consumer electronics pricing.
