Apple is reportedly developing a Proximity Control feature for upcoming LG smart home accessories. When an iPhone user approaches a device, the Dynamic Island will display a prompt to open the control panel, allowing for quick access to settings like camera feeds or smart doorbells.
The technology is expected to utilize NFC tags for identification and Bluetooth Low Energy signals to detect proximity. For devices or tablets lacking the Dynamic Island, the system will trigger a notification that remains active for approximately 30 seconds. Users will retain the option to disable this feature within the Home app.
The collaboration between Apple and LG reportedly includes a range of products such as video doorbells, thermostats, locks, and various security cameras. Many of these devices are expected to support the Matter and Thread standards. Some leaks also suggest that NFC pairing could allow for device setup even when the hardware is not powered on.
Evidence of the Proximity Control feature has been identified in code within iOS 27.0 and iOS 27.2 beta versions. While Apple has not officially confirmed these products, the company has scheduled a smart home event titled Welcome Home for October 13. It remains unclear if the LG accessories will be showcased during this presentation.
