Anthropic is establishing the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a wholly owned LLC subsidiary, to address labor market disruptions caused by AI. The company plans to allocate five percent of its shares to this fund, pending shareholder approval. The fund may provide direct payments to workers or donate to nonprofits.
The fund's equity could increase by two percent for every 50 percent rise in the company's valuation above a set baseline, subject to board discretion. Anthropic currently aims to dedicate approximately 20 percent of its total equity to public good initiatives. The company prohibits the fund from engaging in lobbying or political donations.
Anthropic is preparing for an IPO that could potentially raise up to $100 billion, with a valuation estimated at around $2 trillion. Official filings are expected in the coming weeks. The company maintains control through a Long-Term Benefit Trust and special voting shares held by founders.
Elon Musk responded to the announcement by proposing direct share distributions to the public. He stated plans to distribute one SpaceX share, valued at approximately $146, to each of the 72 million children in the U.S. next year, totaling about $10.5 billion in value.
