AMD has introduced the Helion reference design for agentic AI servers, which is based on the Open Compute Project’s ORv4 specification. The rack design supports 44 OpenU trays and is compatible with both air-cooled and direct liquid-cooled systems. It also adheres to the OCP DC-MHS standard to ensure interoperability across data center and enterprise infrastructure.

The Helion design is flexible and will be available in CPU-only and all-in-one configurations. In a CPU-only setup, the rack can house up to 128 EPYC 9996 processors, providing a total of 32,768 Zen 6 Venice cores. Alternatively, the hybrid configuration supports up to 16 MI350P GPUs and 102 Tbps of networking capacity, intended for enterprise data management and AI tasks.

AMD will not manufacture the racks itself but is contributing the design to the OCP for OEMs and ODMs to bring to market. The company plans to announce its hardware partners during the OCP Global Summit. The Helion rack is scheduled to become available in the first half of 2027, coinciding with the expected ramp-up of Zen 6 processor deployments.
