Amazon is developing smart glasses for delivery drivers that capture images throughout their shifts. According to reports, these devices could record several thousand photos during a typical workday. The company intends to upload this visual data to its AI Wellspring platform to improve delivery operations.

The system is designed to blur faces and license plates before any human review occurs. Amazon confirmed that authorities could potentially access the images through a warrant, though the company has not disclosed its data retention policies. Currently, there is no mechanism for customers to opt out of this process, view captured images, or request their deletion.

The company plans to deploy 20 000 pairs of these smart glasses by the end of 2027. Drivers participating in the initial pilot program have already completed more than 275 000 deliveries while using the technology. Amazon spokesperson Viraj Chatterjee stated that the primary goal is to enhance delivery efficiency rather than conduct surveillance.
