Airbnb announced the launch of a proprietary AI travel agent scheduled for the first half of 2027. The company aims to move beyond traditional text-based chatbots by utilizing a generative user interface that dynamically assembles maps, photos, and itineraries based on specific user requests.
CEO Brian Chesky emphasized that the tool is designed to support the travel planning process, which 80% of travelers find enjoyable. The agent will leverage nearly two decades of platform data to assist with booking, reservation changes, payment issues, and safety support, offering capabilities that general-purpose AI models currently lack.
The company plans to expand the agent's functionality over time to cover services and experiences beyond home and hotel bookings. This development follows a period of strong financial performance, with Q3 revenue reaching $4.87 billion, a 19% increase that exceeded market expectations.
Following the Q3 results, Airbnb raised its 2026 revenue growth forecast to the high teens. Brian Chesky noted that the company is currently experiencing its fastest revenue growth in over three years, signaling a reacceleration for the marketplace.
