Modder LTSharpe, who lacks professional development experience, utilized the Claude Opus 5.5 AI model to optimize The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. The collaboration resulted in the creation of the OblivionRemasteredPerformanceFix mod, which is now available on GitHub.
The AI identified that the game engine was redundantly recalculating scene lighting in every frame, which placed unnecessary strain on the CPU. Over several weeks, the developer and the AI uncovered more than 40 distinct optimization opportunities, particularly within urban environments.
The resulting modification reportedly boosts performance in the open world by up to 40 percent. It also enables the game to maintain a frame rate of approximately 60 frames per second in densely populated city areas.
Beyond performance gains, the mod addresses various bugs present in both the original and remastered code. Additionally, the project includes support for the latest version of AMD FSR frame generation technology.
