A technical director at a small electronics manufacturing firm developed an AI-driven inventory management system to automate component tracking. Previously, the company lacked a functional electronic accounting system, forcing engineers to spend a week manually sorting and counting components before each production cycle.
The new system uses the MiniMax vision model via an API to identify components and read part numbers from photos taken by office staff. The software stack includes Vue 3 for the frontend, FastAPI for the backend, and Docker for infrastructure. The database was populated by an AI that processed existing Excel files.
The implementation reduced the time required for inventory accounting of five boards (236 components) to two days of work for an office manager. Engineers are now relieved of manual sorting tasks and can use the system to generate cost reports and analyze production expenses.
The developer emphasizes that the system relies on a minimal GUI and focuses on API-driven workflows. The project was built using Claude Code and is maintained as a series of modular patches, allowing for rapid adjustments and integration with external supplier data.
