Adsilico, a spinout from the University of Leeds, has secured £10 million in a Series A funding round. The investment was led by PXN Ventures, with participation from Northern Gritstone and Parkwalk. This latest round brings the company's total equity funding to £13.5 million.
The startup utilizes generative AI to create virtual hearts and blood vessels based on anonymized clinical scans. This technology allows medical device manufacturers to test products across diverse virtual populations, accounting for variations in age, sex, ethnicity, and body size before clinical trials begin.
The company plans to use the new capital to expand its portfolio to include neurovascular devices, specifically flow diverters for brain aneurysms. Additionally, the team at the Nexus innovation hub is set to grow from 14 to 34 employees.
The development of complex medical devices is costly, with average costs reaching $522 million. Adsilico aims to provide manufacturers with early insights into anatomical diversity, potentially reducing the need for animal testing and minimizing design errors.
