ADNOC, the national oil company of Abu Dhabi, has entered a multi-year partnership with OpenAI and G42. Announced on November 2, 2026, at the ADIPEC energy conference, this agreement makes ADNOC the first energy firm to implement OpenAI’s Frontier platform across its operations.
The Frontier system utilizes OpenAI’s GPT models to manage complex processes, with computing infrastructure provided by G42 within the UAE. This setup ensures that ADNOC’s operational data remains local while leveraging advanced AI capabilities from San Francisco.
The initial application focuses on field master planning, which involves mapping the development of oil and gas fields. By processing decades of historical data, ADNOC aims to reduce the time required for full-field development planning from months to hours.
Future phases of the project will expand into production, processing, and trading. The strategy involves deploying interconnected AI agents capable of executing actions, such as predicting market shifts and analyzing the business impact of operational decisions.
The collaboration also includes workforce training programs and cybersecurity initiatives through OpenAI’s Daybreak Blue. While ADNOC already operates hundreds of AI and robotics projects, including its ENERGYai platform, this deal is intended to complement existing efforts.
