123 Cloud Drive recently introduced a 'Professional Space' for distributed object storage, intended for unique files like commercial assets and surveillance footage. Simultaneously, the existing 'Standard Space' was restricted to shared or transferred files, effectively separating user-uploaded data from transferred content.
The policy change sparked criticism from long-term users, as it limited the utility of previously purchased storage capacity. In response, the company issued a formal apology on September 28, acknowledging that the rollout was rushed and lacked sufficient testing, which led to technical bugs and user confusion.
The platform announced plans to revise its storage rules, promising to stop classifying files solely by size. The updated policy will include increased 'Professional Space' quotas for existing users, with a baseline of 50 GB for professional and 2 TB for standard storage.
The company has committed to implementing these optimizations by November 2026. Affected users who are dissatisfied with the changes are eligible for refunds, and the service provider has guaranteed that no user data will be deleted as a result of these policy adjustments.
