The Yandex data center located in Sasovo, Ryazan Oblast, ceased operations following a drone strike on October 8. The facility, which serves as a key part of the Yandex Cloud infrastructure, caught fire after the incident, impacting services used by the company, government agencies, and various Russian enterprises.

The data center housed tens of thousands of servers providing cloud computing services. Additionally, the site contained two supercomputers utilized for training Yandex AI models, though the company has not yet confirmed the extent of the damage to these specific systems.

Yandex reported that the ru-central1-b availability zone is currently offline, preventing the creation of new resources. The company is currently assessing the damage to determine if the equipment can be recovered, noting that the site is currently inaccessible.

To mitigate the impact, Yandex has migrated cloud service loads to other availability zones. While core consumer-facing services remain operational, some users may experience access issues with specific cloud resources, including databases and the YandexGPT API.
