Xiaomi has unveiled a new bionic robotic hand designed for industrial applications. The device features 21 degrees of freedom and is powered by a hybrid system of 26 motors, incorporating 1,500 high-density tactile sensing points across the palm.
The development process was based on 1,827 standard operating procedures (SOPs) collected from the Xiaomi automotive smart manufacturing center. The team analyzed data from 16 typical factory sections, covering over 70.8% of manual labor processes.
The robotic hand utilizes a hybrid drive design combined with tendon tension control to ensure precise gripping force. Engineers optimized the thermal management system and the tactile feedback array to improve reliability and simplify maintenance in factory environments.
The tactile sensors provide a spatial resolution of 1mm at the fingertips and finger pads, and 2mm in the palm area. The design allows for modular replacement of components, facilitating easier maintenance and the collection of human-like tactile data for further research.
