Xiaomi Auto clarified that the Pengcheng N90 Max Exploration Edition is officially categorized as a small special-purpose passenger vehicle. This designation follows national standards for Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announcements.

For private owners, the main difference in ownership is the requirement for an on-site inspection at a motor vehicle safety technical inspection agency before registration. This process covers exterior, lighting, emissions, brakes, and vehicle dimensions.

The registration process involves an additional on-site inspection fee compared to standard passenger cars. The time required for registration depends on the local conditions at the inspection site.

Other operational policies remain identical to standard small passenger cars. This includes the same scrap life limits and the same local traffic restrictions and license plate limits.

The vehicle is registered as a small passenger car with seven seats or fewer, allowing it to qualify for free highway tolls during major national holidays. The electric lifting roof cabin is a factory-installed standard feature and does not need to be removed for annual inspections.
