Xbox CEO Sarah Bond has officially denied rumors regarding the potential sale of the Xbox division, asserting that the brand is not for sale. Bond emphasized that the company is committed to long-term success and is prepared to adjust operational models and seek strategic partnerships to achieve its goals.
Recent reports from The Information suggested that Microsoft executives, including CEO Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood, had previously considered spinning off the gaming business. However, leadership has now shifted focus toward a comprehensive restructuring plan aimed at revitalizing the division rather than pursuing a divestiture or joint venture.
The restructuring, which Bond described as a business reboot, includes plans to cut up to 3,200 jobs by the end of the fiscal year ending in June 2027. Nadella noted that the company is currently streamlining its organizational structure to build a more sustainable business model that expands the reach of its gaming titles.
Operational changes include transferring the Halo franchise to Activision and reassigning development teams for Sea of Thieves and Age of Empires. Microsoft is reducing management layers and divesting smaller studios to concentrate resources on major gaming franchises, aiming to operate Xbox as a wholly-owned subsidiary similar to LinkedIn.
