World, a project co-founded by Sam Altman and Alex Blania, launched the World Money financial super app on September 17. The platform is available in more than 150 countries and combines a self-custodial wallet with traditional banking features.
The app allows users to hold stablecoins, including USDC and EURC, alongside local currency equivalents. It supports payroll deposits, peer-to-peer transfers via usernames, and in-app trading. Funds are automatically converted into stablecoins upon receipt.
Yield-earning opportunities are provided through an integration with the decentralized lending protocol Morpho. For payment infrastructure and virtual account management, the platform utilizes Bridge to connect the wallet to the traditional financial system.
World Money builds upon the existing World ID identity verification system, which uses iris scanning to confirm human identity. Existing users of the World App can transition to the new platform while retaining their verified status and potentially accessing enhanced rewards.
