World has launched a suite of tools called World ID for banking and finance, designed to help institutions verify that real people are initiating transactions. Initial design partners for the project include Bain Capital, OpenExchange, Outtake, Pantera Capital, and VanEck Funds.
The system utilizes three cryptographic proofs: Proof of Human, verified via Orb devices; Proof of Presence, using selfie liveness checks; and Proof of Attributes, which confirms specific data like age or nationality from government IDs. The platform also includes AgentKit, a beta developer toolkit for delegating tasks to AI agents.
The company cited rising threats from AI-enabled fraud, noting that Deloitte forecasts such losses in the U.S. to reach $40 billion by 2027, compared to $12.3 billion in 2023. A notable incident occurred in 2024 when an Arup employee transferred $25.6 million after participating in a video call involving deepfakes.
Currently, more than 18 million people possess a Proof of Human ID. The World Foundation secured $52.5 million in funding this year to support network scaling. The project has faced regulatory scrutiny regarding biometric data, including orders to stop operations or delete data in Hong Kong, South Korea, Spain, Kenya, and Brazil.
