Major US financial institutions, including Charles Schwab, JPMorgan Chase, and Bank of America, are actively blocking autonomous AI agents from accessing their platforms. Charles Schwab CEO Rick Wurster confirmed that the bank intercepts various AI agents on a weekly basis, citing concerns over unclear liability when third-party tools interact with customer accounts.
While Charles Schwab restricts agents from performing fund transfers, it allows limited access via dedicated MCP servers for balance inquiries and research. JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America have adopted stricter policies, refusing any third-party agents that attempt to use banking login credentials to access their systems or initiate financial transactions.
The trend of restricting AI agents extends beyond the banking sector. Delta Air Lines has prohibited the use of AI agents for flight bookings, while Yelp now limits platform access exclusively to paid service providers. Amazon has also taken action, accusing the Muse agent of violating site rules and blocking other models like xAI's Grok and OpenAI's Dots.
