Microsoft has unveiled a redesigned search interface for Windows 11, transforming it from a simple file finder into a comprehensive system control tool. Pavan Davuluri, head of the Windows division, announced that the update will allow users to execute thousands of quick actions directly from the taskbar search bar starting this fall.

The new functionality enables users to toggle system settings such as dark mode, 'Do Not Disturb' mode, and microphone volume levels. Additionally, the interface will support sending text messages and provide direct integration with the Copilot AI assistant, allowing users to view AI responses without launching a separate application.

The company has also enhanced the search engine's ability to handle typos and synonyms. Later this year, Microsoft plans to introduce built-in file previews and detailed information displays. Furthermore, the search tool will offer expanded web previews, providing direct answers to queries like weather or factual questions without requiring users to open a browser.
