Tencent has released version 4.2.0 of its WeChat desktop application for both Windows and macOS platforms. While the official changelog only mentions general bug fixes, the update introduces several functional improvements previously seen in beta testing.
The translation feature now allows users to select and translate specific text segments rather than entire messages. Additionally, the emoji panel has been updated to include interactive options like rock-paper-scissors and dice, aligning desktop functionality with the mobile version.
Communication tools have also been refined. Incoming calls now trigger a lightweight floating notification instead of a full-screen pop-up. During active calls, users can send text or images without disconnecting, and the self-view window in video calls can now be moved anywhere on the screen.
Users can download the update directly from the official WeChat website or by using the check for updates feature within the existing application. The installation process is designed to preserve all local chat history.
