Webasto is in advanced negotiations to sell its global high-voltage battery systems division. CEO Jörg Buchheim confirmed that two strategic investors are interested in a complete takeover of the business. The company aims to finalize a deal by the end of this year to stabilize its financial position and reduce debt.
The battery division, which generated approximately €300 million in revenue in 2025, requires significant capital for growth. According to company reports, the unit grows by 25 percent annually, but expanding production capacity can cost up to €100 million. The division is currently operating at a loss, with a projected turnaround in 2027.
Webasto accumulated debts of approximately €1.5 billion following an expansion phase after the turn of the millennium. The company previously cut 2,000 jobs and reached an agreement with banks to extend loans. The current goal is to reduce total debt to below one billion euros through various measures, including potential divestments.
In addition to the battery business, Webasto is seeking partners or buyers for its electric high-voltage heating unit. This division generates around €50 million in annual revenue. The company intends to focus on its core business of automotive roof systems while avoiding further capital-intensive investments in new fields.
