Volvo is reintroducing the plug-in hybrid version of the XC40 SUV, which was previously discontinued three years ago. The updated model is scheduled to arrive at dealerships early next year, featuring a refreshed exterior design and a redesigned interior.
The vehicle includes an 11.2-inch infotainment screen running a new user interface and integrates Google’s Gemini AI assistant for route planning and message management. The interior also features improved wireless charging and storage solutions.
The safety suite has been upgraded with new front and corner radars, a front camera, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and new parking cameras. These additions enable features like real-time collision avoidance, automated emergency steering, and braking.
New safety capabilities include lane change assist, lane following support, and door opening alerts for cyclists. The exterior design updates include revised LED headlights, a new grille, bumper, hood, and tailgate, along with 18-, 19-, and 20-inch wheel options.
Volvo has not yet disclosed technical specifications regarding the powertrain, engine, electric motor, battery capacity, or range for the new hybrid model.
