Klaus Zellmer has been appointed as the new President and CEO of Volvo Cars, succeeding Hakan Samuelsson. Zellmer, who previously served as the CEO of Skoda, brings over 30 years of industry experience to the role. He is expected to assume his new duties within the next 12 months.
The incoming CEO faces the task of executing a major strategic roadmap for the Swedish manufacturer. This plan includes the launch of 13 new vehicle models by 2030, with a focus on markets in the West and China. The strategy aims to double the company's market share.
Zellmer will oversee a shift in the brand's drivetrain strategy, which involves the introduction of more hybrid vehicles. Additionally, the plan calls for deeper collaboration with the parent company, Geely, and improvements to the sales process through transparent pricing and faster delivery options.
The leadership transition comes as Volvo prepares for its 100-year anniversary in 2027. The company is currently navigating a period of profitability challenges, and the board expects Zellmer's background in both premium and high-volume automotive segments to help strengthen the brand's market position.
