Volkswagen is preparing to unveil its new Mission Efficiency concept, a battery-electric vehicle designed to maximize energy efficiency. The car serves as a spiritual successor to the XL1 model, which was produced in a limited run of 250 units between 2013 and 2016.
The original XL1 featured a diesel plug-in hybrid powertrain and achieved a fuel consumption rate of 1 liter per 100 kilometers. The new concept adopts a similar teardrop-shaped design to minimize aerodynamic drag, incorporating features like a full-width LED light bar and rear wheel covers.
To demonstrate its capabilities, the automaker plans to take the Mission Efficiency on a journey from Wolfsburg to Vienna. This trip spans nearly 500 miles and is intended to test the limits of the vehicle's production-based technology in real-world conditions.
