Volkswagen has initiated a recall for 22,524 ID.4 electric SUVs in the US, covering model years 2023 to 2026. The action follows reports of potential thermal runaway in high-voltage batteries supplied by SK Battery America.
The manufacturer identified that specific charging profiles combined with a charge level exceeding 80 per cent may trigger the defect. Volkswagen estimates that approximately 0.1 per cent of the recalled units are affected.
Until a permanent repair is developed, the company advises owners to limit charging to 80 per cent. Some vehicles will receive software-based charging limits and warning messages. Owner notifications are scheduled for 27 November.
Separately, the Volkswagen Group has launched recalls for seatbelt issues. These affect 1,109 VW ID. Polo units and 10,151 Cupra Raval and Terramar vehicles globally, produced between mid-2025 and September 2026.
