The Volkswagen ID. Polo has been named the German Car of the Year 2027. The vehicle secured the top position after winning in the entry-level category for models priced under €25,000. This marks the second consecutive year that a compact electric vehicle from the Volkswagen Group has received this award, following the Skoda Elroq last year.

The ID. Polo is available with two battery options: 52 kWh and 37 kWh. The entry-level model with the 37 kWh battery starts at €24,995 and offers a WLTP range of up to 334 km. Life and Style variants with the same battery capacity start at €29,195. The vehicle supports DC fast charging up to 90 kW, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 23 minutes.

Volkswagen reported that over 50,000 orders for the ID. Polo have been placed since the order books opened in late April. Across the entire Electric Urban Car Family, which includes the ID. Polo, ID. Cross, Cupra Raval, and Skoda Epiq, the company has received nearly 150,000 orders since series production began in June.

The awards ceremony saw electric vehicles dominate across multiple segments. The Kia PV5 won in the compact class, while the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric took the premium segment title. Additionally, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 N was recognized as the German Performance Car 2027. Volkswagen also announced plans to launch the ID. Tiguan in early 2027.
