Southampton-based startup Viridi has secured €2.6 million in a funding round led by Odyssey Ventures. The round included participation from Alphatron Impact Ventures, existing angel investors, and strategic investor TOP Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Thaioil.
Founded in 2020 as a spinout from the University of Southampton, the company develops catalysts that enable manufacturers to convert captured carbon dioxide into chemical ingredients. This technology is designed to integrate into existing factory infrastructure, replacing fossil-based feedstocks used in detergents, cosmetics, and foams.
The company plans to utilize the new capital to scale its commercial deployment, focusing on the Asian market in partnership with TOP Ventures and the US market with support from Odyssey Ventures. This follows the 2025 launch of Vireya, the company's first CO2-based anionic surfactant.
Viridi also maintains a joint development agreement with Zschimmer & Schwarz, established earlier this year, to accelerate the market adoption of its sustainable surfactant technology. The company aims to eventually eliminate fossil feedstocks from the chemical supply chain.
