Valve has introduced support for external CD-ROM drives to the Steam Frame kernel. The update follows a user request posted on the Steam community forum on October 18, where a user noted the device could not power or read a disc drive.

A Valve developer implemented the change in less than 10 minutes. The modification involved enabling a pre-existing Linux kernel feature within the deckard-linux-no-oopsies GitHub repository, rather than building new functionality from scratch.

While this commit does not guarantee an immediate official software update, users with technical expertise can build and install the modified kernel themselves. The Steam Frame is primarily a streaming device that also supports standalone gaming.
