New York-based venture firm Union Square Ventures (USV) has raised $900 million across two new investment funds. The capital is divided into a $500 million early-stage fund and a $400 million opportunity fund. The early-stage vehicle nearly doubles the size of the firm's previous $275 million fund raised in 2024.

The firm has reduced its active general partnership to four members: Fred Wilson, Rebecca Kaden, Michael Mignano, and Nick Grossman. Longtime partners Brad Burnham, Andy Weissman, Albert Wenger, and John Buttrick are transitioning into advisory or reduced roles, though some will continue to manage existing portfolio companies.

USV stated that the restructuring aims to streamline operations and focus on larger investment rounds. The firm identified robotics, manufacturing, and energy as sectors where high capital requirements and valuations are currently prevalent due to the influence of artificial intelligence.

The firm, founded in 2003, intends to prioritize early-stage investments over later-stage participation. By increasing its early-stage capital pool, USV aims to lead larger funding rounds for startups facing the challenges of market competition in the AI era.
