UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on nations to prioritize international cooperation and coordinated global action regarding artificial intelligence. He emphasized that the world cannot afford aggressive competition in the field of AI safety, noting that geopolitical divisions may encourage risky practices.

Guterres highlighted that AI risks transcend national borders, necessitating stricter security measures. He plans to discuss these risks with world leaders during the upcoming UN General Assembly high-level week in New York, where he will advocate for establishing clear safety boundaries for AI development.

Earlier this year, Guterres launched an independent scientific group focused on international AI issues. In July, during a global dialogue on AI governance in Geneva, he urged for comprehensive global control, stating that current generations may be the last capable of defining the terms of human-machine coexistence.
