The UK government has launched an AI training pilot program in Preston for young people aged 16 to 24. The initiative targets the NEET demographic—those not in education, employment, or training—to help them acquire skills for the modern job market.

The three-week course is funded by taxpayers and currently enrolls 70 participants. The curriculum covers AI tool development, corporate AI applications, and responsible technology usage. Students learn to work alongside AI rather than viewing it as a replacement for human labor.

Corporate partners, including JD Sports, Heinz, and Agilysys, provide apprenticeship positions for graduates of the program. These roles are divided into two tracks: AI marketing specialists for content creation and IT support roles requiring AI proficiency.

The project is managed by the IN4 Group. According to executive Lauren Monks, the initiative aims to bridge the talent gap and boost corporate productivity by helping organizations implement AI solutions effectively.

Experts note that the UK faces a significant challenge with nearly one million young people classified as NEETs. While the impact of AI on non-graduate job markets remains under study, the program seeks to provide a competitive edge for youth entering the workforce.
